| It’s taken me a few extra weeks to get into the “Christmas spirit” (last year I had my decorations up by the second week of November!) but if I was still not into it by the beginning of this weekend, I’m definitely feeling it now! We had two holiday gatherings this weekend and – my all time favorite – Javi and I went to see the Nutcracker yesterday afternoon! | Me ha tomado un par de semanas extra sumarme al “espíritu navideño” (el ano pasado decore la segunda semana de noviembre!) pero si no me había sumado al espiritu al principio del fin de semana, ahora si que lo siento! Tuvimos 2 juntas navideñas este fin de semana y – mi favorito de todos los tiempos – Javi y yo fuimos a ver Cascanueces ayer en la tarde! |
| On Friday evening our friend Samantha had friends over to her new place as a housewarming party / end of the semester celebration. Something must have been off in my brain because I didn’t take any photos (shocking, I know!) but we had a great time eating lasagna and hanging out, relaxing with no major pending deadlines looming over our heads. On Saturday we went over to our friend Natalia’s house and had some of the best food that I’ve eaten in a long time! Natalia and another friend Paula spent all day Friday cooking up a storm – cookies, chilaquiles, tortilla española (my favorite!), there was key lime pie, steak, sausage balls, some delicious egg/cheese/sausage casserole – I mean it was intense!! One of our friends Tiffany brought her adorable son Tishaun and we had a blast playing and “talking” with him all afternoon. | El Viernes en la tarde, nuesta amiga Samantha invite a gente a su nueva casa para una fiesta de casa nueva / termino del semester. Algo debio haber estado apagado en mi cerebro porque no tome fotos (impactante, lo se!) pero lo pasamos muy bien comiendo lasagna y pasando el rato, relajándonos sin tener en mente alguna tarea o papeles que entregar. El Sabado, fuimos a casa de Natalia y comimos de la mejor comida que hemos probado en harto tiempo! Natalia y otra amiga, Paula, pasaron todo el dia cocinando para un regimiento – galletas, chilaquiles, tortilla española (mi favorita!), había pie de lima, carne, bolas de longaniza, cacerola de huevos/ queso/ chorizo – osea, fue intenso!! Una de nuestras amigas, Tiffany, trajo a su adorable hijito Tishaun y lo pasamos genial jugando y “conversando” con el toda la tarde. |
| On Sunday Javi and I went to Sam’s sushi and Mike’s ice cream on Broadway before walking back up to TPAC for the Nutcracker. I hadn’t been to the Nutcracker since my freshman year in college (8 years ago!) and I was so excited to see it again. I used to go every year in high school with my girlfriends Gretchen and Danielle and I’ve really missed it. TPAC did a fabulous job – the sets were fun and colorful and the music/dancing was, of course, gorgeous. The performance was actually called Nashville’s Nutcracker and they added a little extra scene at the beginning to place the setting in Nashville in 1897 when Nashville held the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition. Supposedly, Clara went to the expo and saw the Nutcracker at one of the exhibits, fell in love and got it for Christmas. The rest of the show was the same – I loved it. It was also really fun to see all the little girls running around at the intermission wearing cute little Christmas outfits and twirling around like ballerinas. It was a great afternoon and weekend! | El Domingo Javi y yo fuimos a Sam’s sushi y Mike’s ice cream en Broadway antes de ir a TPAC para ver Cascanueces. No había ido a cascanueces desde mi primer ano de universidad (8 anos!) y estaba emocionada de verla de nuevo. Solía ir cada ano en el colegio con mis amigas Gretchen y Danielle y lo extrañaba. TPAC hizo un trabajo fabuloso – la escenografía esta llena de colores y la música/ballet, claro, son preciosos. La obra en realidad se llama Cascanueces de Nashville y agregaron una pequeña escena extra al comienzo para situar la obra en Nashville en 1897 cuando Nashville fue la sede de la Exposición Internacional y el Centenario de Tennessee. Supuestamente, Clara fue a la exposición y vio al cascanueces en una de las exhibiciones, se enamoro de el y lo recibió como regalo de navidad. El resto de show es el mismo – me encanto. Fue también entretenido ver a todas las niñitas corriendo por todos lados durante el descanso usando sus tiernos atuendos de navidad y bailando como las bailarinas del ballet. Fue una gran tarde y un genial fin de semana! |
